Ghanaian highlife artiste George Kwabena Adu, popularly known as Kwabena Kwabena, recently shared an experience where he felt disrespected by a gospel musician. The incident occurred when he sought to collaborate on a gospel project, only to be dismissed as a secular artiste attempting to cross into sacred music. Kwabena Kwabena recounted how the unnamed gospel artiste made him feel like an outsider, treating him as “a worldly person” unworthy of contributing to gospel music.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, he revealed that the artiste directed him to speak with her husband instead of engaging directly. This response left him disheartened, as he had approached the collaboration with sincerity. However, the experience contrasted sharply with his later collaboration with gospel musician Obaapa Christy on his seventh album, God of Restoration EP. Kwabena Kwabena expressed deep gratitude for her welcoming attitude, describing how she made him feel honored rather than out of place.

“I would like to appreciate Obaapa Christy. When I phoned her to talk about doing a song, she made me feel she was rather honored to do a song with me. It was so humbling, and I say thank you and may God bless her very much. I now understand why she is quite unique,” he said. The God of Restoration EP features five tracks, with its lead single, Fakyɛme, showcasing the successful partnership between the two artists. The project highlights Kwabena Kwabena’s versatility and the importance of mutual respect in creative collaborations.
