Strict Red Carpet Rules for TGMA 2025: No Invitation, No Appearance

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) is set to enforce stricter red carpet regulations this year, aiming to bring order and elevate the event’s prestige. Charterhouse, the awards’ organizers, has announced that only officially invited celebrities and dignitaries will be permitted on the main red carpet during this year’s ceremony. The decision comes after years of criticism over disorganization, questionable attendee choices, and underwhelming fashion displays.

For the 2025 edition, the red carpet will be divided into two segments: a general session for media interactions and photoshoots, and a televised main session reserved exclusively for invited guests. The latter will feature fashion interviews and exclusive coverage, ensuring a more polished and streamlined experience for viewers.

Past editions of the TGMA red carpet have faced backlash from industry insiders and fans alike. Media personality Michael Ola previously described the 2024 red carpet as chaotic, likening it to a “marketplace” due to the lack of proper planning and unchecked access. Similarly, fashion entrepreneur Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) criticized the event’s execution, comparing it unfavorably to red carpets in Nigeria and South Africa, where stricter standards are upheld.

Charterhouse’s new directive seeks to address these concerns by limiting access to only those with formal invitations. The move is expected to enhance the event’s exclusivity while ensuring that only high-profile personalities and well-dressed attendees are featured in the televised broadcast.

The 2025 TGMA ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 10, at the Grand Arena of the International Conference Centre (AICC). With these changes, the organizers aim to deliver a more refined and memorable red carpet experience, aligning the event with international standards and silencing past detractors. The success of this new approach will ultimately depend on its execution, but for now, the message is clear: no invitation means no red carpet appearance.
