Creative Careers Like Makeup Artistry Not For Dull Minds – Roselyn Mantey

Makeup artist and reigning Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for Longest Makeup Application Marathon, Roselyn Akosua Mantey, is dispelling the notion that careers in the arts and creative industries are less demanding or suited for those who aren’t academically inclined.
According to Mantey, a makeup artistry career requires creativity, innovation, and a sharp mind.
Sharing her personal story, she encouraged a cultural shift towards valuing skill-based professions.
“The beauty industry is misunderstood here. It’s wrongly seen as a luxury or non-essential sector. I’m a living example. Through make-up artistry, I’ve gained financial independence and built a respected brand.
“Creative careers are not lesser—they are just different. We must start appreciating skill-based paths and introduce them early in schools.”
On Monday, April 7, Roselyn presented her GWR Award to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in recognition of the vital role the creative industry plays in national development.
At the presentation, Deputy CEO of GTA, Abeiku ‘Santana’ Aggrey, applauded Roselyn’s achievement and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to support her advocacy for skill acquisition among the youth, which she will be embarking on.
She told Graphic Showbiz during the interview that being a make-up artist has brought her honour and called for investors in the creative industry.
“Make skill training compulsory in every school. Fund programmes that support creative careers. Set up mentorship schemes. When you invest in creativity, you reduce unemployment, boost innovation and build a more resilient economy. “Ghana must bet on her creatives—because we’re betting on Ghana every single day,” she stated.
